We Are Just Right for… Social Butterflies
Social Clubs, Service Organizations, & Hobby Groups
If tradition and service are important to you, consider joining the Rotary Club (www.jcrotary.com) or the Kiwanis Club (www.jckiwanis.org), two time-honored organizations that promote social connection as well as social welfare. You can also check out the website of the United Way of Washington County TN
(www.unitedwayofwashingtoncountytn.org/volunteer) for a list of volunteer opportunities to fill your calendar and make you feel good. There are numerous non-profits in the region always looking for volunteer talent to serve on committees and boards. Johnson City Nightlife
Night owls and party animals alike will have plenty to do in Johnson City—our downtown area comes alive when the sun goes down! Walking down Main Street any weekend night, you’ll find an eclectic mix of restaurants, clubs, bars, and entertainment venues packed with fellow revelers. And there’s definitely lots to do downtown in the summer and fall, when Founders After 5, a yearly free concert series playing in Founders Park, gets into full swing every Friday night. Bring your date, your dog, and your dinner to Founders and relax on the grass while listening to the best local bands play every kind of music—from alternative rock and bluegrass to world beats and zydeco. To view this year’s concert schedule and find out what else is going on downtown, check out www.downtownjc.com.
We’ve come a long way since making moonshine way up in the hills! These days, it’s all about fine craft beer brewed legally right inside the city limits. Visit Johnson City Brewing Company
(www.johnsoncitybrewing.com), Barley Waters (www.barleywaters.com) or any of our other local breweries to taste what’s on tap and play trivia or SINGO! with your fellow patrons.
The Brewly Noted Beer Trail is uniquely positioned in both Tennessee and Virginia, giving craft beer lovers a trail that is both rich and delicious in both states. This is the first multi-state beer trail in the US, showcasing an amazing array of craft breweries that are unique to the Appalachian region. Visit
www.brewlynotedbeertrail.com and plan your weekend visit. On behalf of Johnson City, we invite you to sit, drink, and be merry with us—but, as always, we ask that you do so safely and responsibly!
Enjoy the Culture
Perhaps you’re a history buff or maybe a lover of music and theatre. We can inspire you in both of these areas. Our region boasts a strong history and sites throughout the area showcase our upbringing. Visit Tipton Haynes Historic Site, Carter Mansion, Exchange Place, Historic Jonesborough, Sycamore Shoals Historic Site, Rocky Mount Museum, Netherland Inn, the Andrew Johnson Historic Site, or others. They are all outlined on our website, www.visitjohnsoncitytn.com.
If music and theatre are your thing, visit the Johnson City Community Theatre, Jonesborough Repertory Theatre, or the Barter Theatre up in Abingdon VA. The ETSU Fine & Performing Arts Center is currently under construction, scheduled to open in Fall 2019 with an impressive lineup of shows and productions.
